Nepal
a landlocked Himalayan country, faces many challenges. Sarlahi is culturally
vibrant and agriculture rich district located in the southern part of Nepal, within madhesh
province known for its fertile plans, diverse communities and significant
religious and historical landmarks. The district serves as vital hub in Nepal's
terai region. The district headquarter is in malangwa.
Strengthening Child-Friendly Learning Environments through Classroom Furnishing Support Project was implemented in Malangwa Municipality with the generous financial support of Qatar Charity and local implementation by Chetana Sarlahi. The project aimed to improve the quality and functionality of classrooms by supplying and installing essential furniture to support effective teaching and learning.
A safe, inclusive, and child-friendly classroom is
fundamental to improving children's learning outcomes, attendance, and overall
well-being. In many community schools across Sarlahi District, classrooms continue to lack age-appropriate
furniture, resulting in overcrowded seating, poor posture, limited classroom
interaction, and reduced motivation among students. Young learners,
particularly those in Early Childhood Development (ECD) and primary grades,
often sit on damaged benches, shared desks, or even on classroom floors,
negatively affecting concentration and participation.
Nepal's education policies emphasize child-friendly schools
that provide safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environments.
Development initiatives in Sarlahi have similarly highlighted that improvements
in classroom infrastructure, child-friendly teaching spaces, and inclusive
learning environments contribute to better student participation and learning
outcomes.
Providing adequate classroom furniture is a practical and sustainable intervention that enhances the physical learning environment while supporting inclusive education, children's health, and improved teaching-learning practices.
